PORTRAIT OF A GUITAR HERO was first written and performed in 2003. The idea of creating a sonic portrait of guitar heroes was suggested to me by composer William Duckworth and his wife Nora Farrell. This performance was the first incarnation of it, using musical references from AC/DC (Hell's Bells), Yngwie Malmsteen (who is known for performing Paganini Caprice #5, originally written for violin), Jimi Hendrix (Voodoo Chile), Eric Clapton (Layla) and Keith Richard's riff in Sympathy for the Devil.
